Instructors’ Teaching Experience

This was one of the first stories my class read, and the response was phenomenal. We were able to, in the space of a lesson, examine the historical context in which the story was written, analyze the character of Hazel Morse in terms of her illnesses (depression, alcoholism) and create “treatment plans” that isolated the unhealthy behavior Hazel exhibits and suggests period-appropriate alternatives. A really excellent introduction to character analysis.
